Its true that printers have limitations but I have also found limitations within the print driver used and that changing the driver gave me greater options. But the printer may still inhibit smaller margins as Mike has said.

I finally resolved this by contacting HP tech support. My Deskjet 9680 printer does have a 0.5" edge print limit on one end. However, I am able to override it by selecting a borderless paper in the Paper Size of the Page Setup window. It may not be an ideal solution for compatibility issues of a particular paper being used, but it works fine for my purposes. Thanks for the input.
