Default Printing Issue - Need Help!!

I am having trouble printing large format files from InDesign (Quark, too) to a Xerox Phaser 7300DN connected through a network. Occasionally it will work once, but will quit after that. This has caused major deadlines to be missed and needs to be resolved asap!!

If anyone can offer some insight, please let me know. Thanks!

What OS are you using? Any error message? Is that true only in your Mac or everyone is affected? Give us more details.

Sorry for the lack of detail...

I'm using OS X, I get no error message and I get the same result when I use our spare Mac (practically the same computer as mine, G5, OS X, network, etc). From InDesign it all appears to be printing fine, it goes through the printing progress bar, it spools through the printer queue and reports as "finished." But, the printer shows no reaction, does not warm up or show any error message.

I can print using other programs, occasionally I can export the file as a PDF and print that, but not always. I have had this problem with multiple files using completely different fonts/images, etc.

Any other details you need that I am missing?

The address of the local mindreader? 8)) Only joking.

Well, for starters, what version OSX, what version ID, have you got the latest printer driver for your printer, can you build a completely new print style in ID and try that, can you print from another (or new) user account on your Mac, can you print one page at a time??

A font can cause what you describe but then again, so can many other things...

What's the printer brand and model you are using? If you have another printer, trying printing to that. If it prints, it would likely be a faulty PPD in the first one.

Arnold - Uh... read the FIRST LINE of his question. Looks like a Xerox Phaser 7300DN to me.

First off.. do you have any type of rip for the printer.. internal or external. Second.. check go to your Utilities / Printer Setup Utility. In there you should see your printers connected to the network. Double click on the one you are having problems with. Are there any jobs in there? Take a look at the settings and see if there is anything there that might cause problems. Call Xerox and tell them your problem and see if they have an answer....

Sorry, I forgot all about that. I'm not 100% sure about this but we have a Phaser 7300N's (not DN) that have given us the same headache described by J. Puccini. It didn't matter if we used the PPD that came with the CDs or those that came with Panther and Tiger.

Surprisingly, when we used the PPD for our Phaser 7700GX, the printer worked without any hitch. So when another department bought its own Phaser 7300N and asked us about thir problem, we immediately knew the solution. That said, I suggest that J. Puccini try the PPD for 7700GX and see if it works. We would appreciate it if you give us any feedback.
    Thanks.
