printing postscript from OSX?
OK, I'm ready to take the plunge to OSX
I have just ordered a dual 1250mhz G4 (using 350mhz G3 at the moment)
I would have gone for a G5 but i'm not quite ready to abandon OS9 totally,
just in case!
already got my FH10, Quark 6 on order, Photoshop cs on order.
at the moment I am printing from Freehand and Quark to My HP 1220 using
Adobe Pressready postscript RIP in OS9.2
please forgive my ignorance but how do I print in postscript to my HP1220
from OSX?
as far as I can make out I can only load the standard non postscript printer
driver to talk to my printer, or print to a postscript file , but I need
some kind of OSX based postscript software RIP to send it to my printer.
can any of you brave early OSX pioneers shine some light on my options?
cheers, Rob P

Re: printing postscript from OSX?
Rob,
Well you may as well wait for Panther as well. It's not clear but
according to this page:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/printing/
There are built in PostScript printing features in Panther.
- PostScript printing for Raster Devices Print EPS content and
PostScript documents to any raster printer.
- Virtual PostScript Printer Sharing Share Mac direct connect printers
as network Postscript printers.
And here is HP's official stance on using their PS printers with OS X:

Good Luck,
Rich

The G5s run classic just fine AFAIK.> just in case!

have to keep at least one OS9-running machine around for some tasks,
including the conversion of the many older FH documents we still have in
the archives, which has to be done in FH8.

Re: printing postscript from OSX?
thanks guys,
Darrel yes i considered the G5 but I would still like the option to run a
bootable OS9 rather than in classic mode, for a while anyway, yeah so I'm a
big coward ;oP
It looks as if Panther has postscript built in so to speak (very cool idea
if well implemented) thanks for the heads up Rich
cheers, Rob P
