Re: Printing Problem
Have you tried Epson support? I cannot find 2100 on their site, but it looks as
though 2200 may have the same driver. There is a driver with an April time stamp, it
maybe newer than yours.

Well, The list of printers is held in /etc/lp/printers as a directory
for each printer. It should be owned through and through by
user lp and group lp.
Presuambly if it is not owned by LP only the root user would be able
to see the printers.
Well its a theory .......

a PRINTER environment variable
an LPDEST environment variable
Any of those things can set the user's default printer to a
name that doesn't exist.

Printing problem
When I go to print preview, the preview shows much lighter colours than the image in Photoshop, and prints out lighter. This is only occuring with Photoshop elements. Something is obviously happening when the image is sent for printing but I can't work out what. My only thought is whether calibrating the monitor may be a cause. Any ideas?
Also can't get the hang of colour management as it makes the scanned in image much more red, so I then have to correct for this.

Re: Printing problem
Tony,
It is helpful if you mention what OS you are using and some computer specs, but...for Windows
Are you saying you did or did not use the Gamma Utility in Adobe? It is important to run this utility unless you have a LCD. This will produce a profile through which you view all images in PSE (which is why images viewed in other applications and Preview look different). If you create your profile carefully, it should allow a good match between screen and printer.
Personally, I use the program with Edit>Color Settings>No Color Managment and get excellent monitor to printout matches. The printer driver settings one chooses also greatly effects your results.
Come back if you have another question.

Re: Printing problem
Stephanie,
I guess you have one of the few printers which can print "full bleed", right to the edges of the paper, since you are able to print out the entire 4" dimension on a 4x6 paper, most printers need some room around the edges, like 1/4 inch for paper handling (which is why they make the 4x6 paper which includes a tear off portion added on to this)
You are probably getting 4x5 because that is the aspect ratio of your image. In other words... an image is x number of pixels by x number of pixels and to print out a perfect 4x6 the long side of your image would have to be comprised of 50% more pixels than the shorter.
Go to Edit>Resize>Image Resize and just look to see what the dimensions of your image is in terms of pixels.

Re: Printing problem
Tony,
"Also can't get the hang of colour management as it makes the scanned in image much more red, so I then have to correct for this. "
This is generally due to not having an accurate scanner profile and then delivering the image into the "color rich" AdobeRGB colorspace. The Epson Twain driver has the capability of delivering a color managed image, but many Twain drivers don't . Color management is not "turned on" by default, you have to dig a little to get those settings in the Twain driver.
If you have time to read this Ian Lyons' review of Silverfast, you'll see what I mean about profiling the scanner, and how to use the profile ( here with Silverfast ) to deliver a quality, color adjusted image to Elements .

Printing problem
I am trying to fill out an application for school. I have had a difficult time just trying to figure out how to type my text onto the document. I think, not sure, that I figured out how to get it typed in the correct way but when I print, nothing that I have typed is on the document although I can see it on the screen. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction to where I am using the right part of acrobat to type my words. Then tell me how to print it out because obviously the word print on my computer is misleading. HELP!!!.

Re: Printing problem
It would be handy to know what version of Acrobat/Reader you're using, but let's assume you have Acrobat Pro 6.01. If you don't, I'll let you work out what the equivalent commands and options could be.
To create the text entries use the Text Box tool (Tools>Advanced Editing > Text Box tool - icon looks like T+). Draw a box and fill in the text. Click away from the box and then right click (with hand tool) and select properties to change the colour of the box background and border - the text is the same as the border. For black text on white use O thickness black border and no fill color.
If you want to change the text, double click in the text and then select View, toolbars, Properties (CTRL+E). In this tool bar you can edit the font, color and one or two other things. When you're happy with the first text box, click away from the box, then right click on the box and select Make current properties default. Then all the other text boxes will look the same.
To print your filled in form, you need to select File>Print and in the Print dialog box select Document and Comments in reponse to Print What (bottom left hand corner). This is not the same as File>Print with Comments. This option is for people using the comments as a review process rather than a PDF editing process.
To make the comments a permanent feature of the PDF (if you want to send the filled in form back without having the schools staff running into difficulties with printing Document and Comments), you should print the form and comments to Acrobat PDF prnter and create a new "integrated PDF".
Now if you've got some other Acrobat/Reader application, please reflect for a moment before you ask someone to type all this out again, because you ignored the instructions at the top of the forum to provide OS and application details. Some other contributors have provided quality and quantity far above what you'd get from Adobe Technical Support and here it's free, but even the greatest are still working on the telepathy link. But if you're still having problems, come back here, provide all the details, and someone will help out.
Good luck with the form filling and, most of all, good luck with the application.
Cheers
Ian

Re: Printing problem
I hate when people don't pay attention to detail. My apologies. Anyway, I have acrobat 6.0 professional and OS is XP home. Your directions worked fine for me and I have filled out the application and it printed right. Thanks for your assistance.

Printing Problem
Hi All
My problem is this. I have a client who insists that when she receives my files and tries to print them that they are bigger than A4 and the illustrations are cut off.
I have set my document up to measure A4, my print preferences are set at A4 and my print menu has been set at A4 rather than driver defined. I checked the page tiling and made sure that the images and associated banners are within the printable area.
Is there anything else I need to do to ensure that the page measures A4 and prints as A4 on any computer. Are the print settings within microsoft affecting illustrator print settings. I don't have minimise margins activated so it can't be that!!
Is it a problem at the customer end with printer set-up.
Should I leave the print menu set at Driver Defined rather than changing it.
Hope someone can help

Re: Printing Problem
Janette,
It sounds like you've done all that can be done at your end to ensure proper fit, but it's probably impossible to really analyze exactly what's happening without knowing more about what your client is doing with your files at her end.
Is she running Illustrator? What format are you supplying? You mention Microsoft...is your client trying to use/print your graphics from within a Microsoft application, (other than the OS)? What type of printer is she printing to?

Printing Problem
Hi there
I have designed a 12 page brochure, each page is A4 and is then supposed to be printed on A3 to a Xerox Docucolor 3535. I have used the Inbooklet app to sort out the page layout etc and it looks fine.
The problem is that the printer refuses to print the InDesign document. It starts spooling and gets to 2meg of 2.2meg and then refuses to go any further.
If i export as a .pdf and try and send the document then it doesnt even get to the printer.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, hopefully its something very simple. Any help or advice would be really appreciated. This is the first time we have used InDesign for an internal job and if I cant get it working then there is talk of having to use Publisher:(
thanks in advance

The original file will print to a HP Laserjet but not to the Xerox. Im not sure whether its just the settings that arent quite right or whether its something much worse.

Re: Printing Problem
Try printing one page at a time until you get to a page that crashes.
Then you need to start deleting items on that page until you finally
find the culprit.
If it's crashing on everything, my guess would be a bad font.

Re: Printing Problem
Solved the problem, for some reason it was the Arial text that was making the print job freeze. Deleted it along with all of the text frames and then reimported - all works fine now.
Ok so that was strange. Thanks for the assist Bob:)
