Default Printing problem with iPhoto 2

When I select to print a 6x4 image for example the height of the print is 4
inches but the width is approx 5.25 inches. I have my Canon Ixus 400 camera
    set to Superfine & 2272 X 1704 pixels, image size 12.6 X 9.4 inches. As I am
UK based I have the page setup to A4, I did try US letter but got the same
result. What am I doing wrong?

    You can't scale a 2272 X 1704 pixel image to 6 X 4 inches without
distortion. You'll have to crop the image to a 3:2 aspect ratio before
    scaling it

You're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Your digital photo is 1.333 times as long as it is tall.
    (2272 / 1704 = 1.3333)

Your photo paper is 1.5 times as long as it is tall.
    (6 / 4 = 1.5)

When you print your photo at 4" high, your software has to use a
resolution of 426 pixels per inch; at that resolution, the photo will be
    5.333" x 4". (2272/426 = 5.333; 1704/426 = 4)

To make it fill the 6" x 4" paper, you'll have to do one of two things:

    1) Tell the program to scale it non-proportionally to 6" x 4". It'll
stretch the photo a bit more horizontally, so it fits the paper. But it
won't look quite right because it's been stretched.

    2) Tell the program to scale it to be 6" wide. That'll make the photo
    6" x 4.5", so it'll be a bit too big for the paper -- you'll lose 1/4"
from the top & bottom -- but it'll look good.
