Printing Problems
All,
I am using a simple printer friendly page the opens up as
a new window.
I use a DIV TAG called "printReady" in the section I want
to print (Printer friendly) then in a javascript function
I do this
var printFriendly = document.getElementById("printReady")
var strHTML = printFriendly.innerHTML
I then open a new window with the Javascript and write the
HTML (mostly Text) to the new window.
var printWin = window.open("","printSpecial");
printWin.document.open();
printWin.document.write(html);
printWin.document.close();
This works fine, but if the page is to wide using
Landscape is fine, but in portrait mode it only prints one
page the cut off part is not printed on the second page.
Some times the page will print but the text is missing.
Only the table outlines print.
Any one experience this before or have any suggestions if
this can be overcome.
Thanks
Jawahar

Hi Jawahar,
I suggest posting to a browser group, client side scripting group, or
something along those lines. This group is about ASP, which is a
server-side programming technology, and has no control over print layouts.

Printing problems
Hi there
Wondering if anyone out there has been having the same problems as us.
We have recently upgraded to Freehand MX from version 8 and are experiencing hell when tring to print.
It sometimes helps when we cut and past objects from old files into new one but it does not always work. Another trick we find sometimes works is converting our font to curves.
We thought it might be the case of our version 8 files corrupting when we import but the nasties are also happening with new documents. Another gremlin is the fact that when we reduce imported images they seem to lock by themself and can't be moved.
We are printing to Cannon CLC 900 with internal Fiery, is this the problem.
Can anyone offer advice as we are currently wasting around 2-3 hours a day.
Thanks

What happens exactly when you try to print?>We have recently upgraded to Freehand MX from version 8 and are experiencing hell when tring to print.

If some objects do not print check if they are nested groups which have been scaled by you in MX. If so
try to ungroup every group (the nested ones too) of the object, and then copy and paste it to a new document.
At least this is the only way for us to print imported documents.
Definitely No!>We are printing to Cannon CLC 900 with internal Fiery, is this the problem.
This is a really serious Freehand Bug which leads to
a) angry customers
or
b) You wasting tons of time to doublecheck if all you see on the screen is on your printout too.

Printing Problems
I am currently trying to make a magazine style publication in Illustrator 10. I want the pages to be 7.5 inches by 10 inches, in order to allow images to bleed off the page. However, when I go to print, parts of each page are cutoff due to preset margins in the file. I have tried changing them through crop marks, etc. Any suggestions? I simply want the pages I have designed 7.5 by 10, to print that way, without cutting off any of the design.

Re: Printing Problems
Make sure that your Print Setup is to your printer standard page size.
Then in the tool box click the hand and change the flyout to the little page with dotted lines. Now move to your artwork and place the dotted line so that your art sits in the middle. What this does is make sure your art is going to fit on the print page.
Don't forget that crop marks crop a page, trim marks indicate trims where the bleed will cut off.

Re: Printing Problems
Thank you very much! That seemed to work perfect! I will be printing on both sides of the paper, so I might run into some problems, but if necessary I can print on one side. Thanks again!

Re: Printing Problems
Fan,
But if making a multi-page magazine, it sure would be a lot better to use InDesign for the publication text and setup and Illustrator for the vector graphics. A lot less work, for sure.

Re: Printing Problems
My printer, an Epson Stylus Photo 960, allows me to print directly on to CD's. The printer settings are critical and it will only work if I can use the required settings. My previous version of Illustrator allowed me to "use printer settings" from a document ptint dialog. CS doesn't seem to offer this option so I'm having to re-set the printer options each time I print another CD. Very tedious when I have to print 40 CD's.
Is there a way to lock in the printer settings, at least for the duration of my print run.
Thank for your help

Re: Printing Problems
Roger,
Perhaps an Action in version 10. But in Illustrator CS: you can save the file(s) with PRINT SETUP established? If you have one print preset established, you can print using it's perameters any document by saving it to a numbered preset, then call for it either individually or by using an Action (but I'm not the one to walk you through Actions. I seldome use them). But once you establish and Save Preset for a file, it's logged into the file itself and will stay that way each time it's opened and PRINT is called for, unless you change the preset.

Re: Printing Problems
Hi Bob, thanks fro responding.
Yes I established a preset and yes, I saved the document with both presets established. CS seems to drop the communication with the printer each time I print. I have to print 1 at a time with manual feed, so each time I print I have to go to "setup" and re-set the printer to my CD preset.

Re: Printing Problems
Roger,
I just did a Preset and closed the file, then reopened and called for it to print and it's Preset (number 2) is established as the printing profile without me having to reset it. Either you didn't Save the profile or something is interfering with it would be my guess.

Re: Printing Problems
Try setting up your printer with a setting other than the default settings, like increased DPI or a different size. CS DOES keep it's custom setting when I call up the file but it won't repeat the printer setting I need to use to print the CD's. In Illustrator 8.0 I was able to lock in the printer settings as long as I kept the file open, not so with this version.

Re: Printing Problems
Roger,
I'm not sure what you mean by "as long as I kept the file open"? If you have that file selected, the printer preset should remain the same even if you print one by one and not in multiples. But actually if you need to print the same image to 40 different CDs, why aren't you just setting 40 as the number you want to print? You don't have to have a multiple DVD printer to accomplish that. It'll just ask you to put in "paper" when you go to next and so on. Only it'll be a new disk you'll be putting in, of course, if the printer is set for that.

Re: Printing Problems
"If you have that file selected, the printer preset should remain the same even if you print one by one and not in multiples." Yea you'd think so , but it doesn't repeat the exact setting I have to have on the printer itself.
I tried your suggestion about multiple prints and it will work for me as long as I pull the paper from the tray, (it tries to load paper if I don't). The CD printer uses a manual tray from the front. Looks like it works, so I'll go ahead and print in that mode.
thanks for you time and your help

Re: Printing Problems
Although my next printer will definitely have that ability, I've not tried printing directly onto a CD disk. I shall, however, as I do a lot of DVD and CD making.

Printing Problems
Hello All!
We are using FH 11.0.2 MAC OS X 10.2.8 on a G4 2x450Mhz. The document contains
various A4 pages with 3-4 images (photos and renderings) on each page. We are
printing to Epson ink jet printers and certain images print as if they are
lower res than what they should be. If we print the same image from Photoshop
all is fine. Also this problem seems to come and go.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Doug.
