Prints not crisp with 10.0 Panther fine with Classic / Illus. 8.0

When I need a nice laser print, i am forced to launch Illustrator 8.0 under classic, because 10.0 prints have no fine lines and everything has a jagged edge.

Any ideas on this?

And the reason there was probably no answer was because the writer didn't tell us enough information...like what kind of printer was he using?

Make sure you've downloaded the latest printer driver for whatever printer you're using. Make sure you've updated to 10.0.3.

I have never had a problem upgrading my system and printing to our laser printer. But, I'm still in system 9.2.2.

I'm sure there should be updates to the print driver if I go to OSX. Do you think this is the problem that so many people are having? They don't update their printer to be OSX compatable?

Although shouldn't all the new ppd's be included with OSX?

I would like to know your thoughts on this.

I never had any problems printing from Illustrator on my Epson 740. And when I got my Epson C84, I had no problems either.

It's always frustrating reading about other people's printing problems. They usually have a different printer than you do. There's no guarantee that OS X comes with the latest version of the printer driver but they don't think to look for an update. They don't look at the settings for their printer.

And then this other issue is that some OS X printer drivers aren't the best. I spend more time in the InDesign forum, and over there the great majority printing problems seem to be with HP printers.

So I don't usually respond unless I have some concrete thing to offer.

Thanx, Steve. That's a little reasuring that it's not every printer when changing over to OSX.
