Default Pro version numbers do not display correctly;other update weirdness

Installed Acrobat Pro from my CD's for the first time. Ran the "check for upgrade" function under the Help menu. It says I need to install 7.0.5, 7.0.7, and 7.0.8. I say "okay" and it downloads the files and attempts to install. Then I start getting messages that the patch is out of range.

On closer examination I notice that the Get Info window shows vers. 7.0.0, but when I run the app, it shows it is 7.0.8.

I don't much care (except for the wasted time) that the version numbers are funky, but the bigger problem is that the updater continues to insist that I need to get these updates installed! This install is going on other people's desks, so I can't have this sort of nonsense occurring.

Anyone have an idea how to get the numbers to all agree???

    TIA!

unless the update has an asterisk by it in the update window, you don't need to download and install it.
