Problem converting doc from RGB to CMYK with gradients

I am trying to send my file to a service bureau that requires I convert to CMYK. I created the document in RGB and it has 4 shapes with gradient fills. I get an error message saying it cannot convert gradients or patterns to CMYk when I try to convert. I've tried saving the document as an Illustrator 8.0 before conversion and that doesn't work either. Any ideas?

What version Illustrator? Unless there is something I'm missing, I just converted an RGB to CMYK without a problem and it had objects with gradient fills. No error message. I'm using CS, but if you are using version 9, is that 9.0.2 or if version 10, is it 10.0.3?

Are your gradients comprised of spot colors?

Yes, that was also true using SPOT colors. This is using Illustrator CS. Did we determine what version of Illustrator you are using yet? And if not CS, are you using latest updates?

Hey,

I also have a problem converting from RGB to CMYK in Illustrator 10.

I selected my image, and went to filter s--> colours, but the 'convert to CMYK' option was greyed out.

Anyone knows how to solve this?
