Default problem with different css styles with different a:links in one doc.

I use two different css style sheets in one document. Each with different a:link, a:hover, etc. values. But when I apply different styles from the sheets to text, it only takes the a:link, a:hover values of one style sheet, not the other, no matter which style sheet I use a style from.
    How can I fix this?
