I have a strange problem using audacity v. 1.2.0-pre1 on suse linux 8.0,and a chaintech apogee 9pjl motherboard with a soundchip that linux (alsa drivers) recognises correctly as 'cmipci'. The problem is that when i record from line i get only a mono input and very low volume. Playing is fine. Note that with the older version of audacity 1.0.0 i can record stereo with a decent level. Hi to all, excuses for crossposting. (perhaps there is a more

I have a strange problem using audacity v. 1.2.0-pre1 on suse linux
8.0,and a chaintech apogee 9pjl motherboard with a soundchip that linux
(alsa drivers) recognises correctly as 'cmipci'.

The problem is that when i record from line i get only a mono input and
very low volume. Playing is fine.

Note that with the older version of audacity 1.0.0 i can record stereo
    with a decent level.

Something with the management of this sound drivers must be happened
    meanwhile... ??

Anybody has experienced something similar and/or solved it?

    Regards, Robert.

I also have a CM 8738 card and use ALSA driver.

Try to open gnome-alsamixer and try the different settings.

I recorded the output of TV card from line1 using fftv.

If you record from MIC input, you must turn on the MIC Boost option.

Thank you for the tip, i'll try and eventually post the result.

    Robert.

p.s. apart from this problem what do you think about this chipset?
It seems to me to have a decent/good playback and rec quality.

Unfortunately using gnome-alsamixer (which is an interesting mixer
indeed...) does not solved my problem.
Everything remained the same even messing with the many buttons on the
    mixer.

    If anybody have another idea....

    TIA. Rob.
