Default Problem with lighting & textures

    Hi,

I'm currently handling a project for a light bulb manufacturer, that involves a virtual environment (a conference roon & a garden) in which different models of lights can be moved by the user interactively.

What we orginally did was to create the light models in 3ds max 5, and exported them as .W3D, for use in Director. The problem is, the realistic lighting & shadows that we see in 3ds max is lost and also some of the textures do not crossover.

The client requires that the photorealistic lighting effects in the room should change in real time, as we drag the light objects.

I would be obliged if someone suggests a solution, alternate software, etc.

    Thanking you,

    Ahmed.

    Ahmed,

Unfortunately, Shockwave 3D do not cast shadows. Objects only have their
proper shadow, whose color is that of the ambient color of the shader. If
you want to cast shadows, you have to fake them, either by duplicating,
scaling non-uniformly objects (to make them flat) and coloring them
differently (e.g black + transparent) if you want them to move with the
light. Or by baking the lighting in texture : diffuse light map, specular
light map in 3DS Max. But you won't have real shadow casting.

If you search for an interactive 3D solution with realtime shadow casting,
playable both on CD-Rom and on the web, Virtools might be the solution for
    you.

    Cheers,
    Karl.
