I am having a problem opening an eps file sent to me by a client

using AI10 on a mac I try to open the file and get the following message:

Can't open the illustration. The illustration does not have the correct number of operands for an operator.

    Offending operator: 'C'
    Context:

and this is then followed by a large string of numbers, I click on ok and all I get is a blank page. opening the eps in freehand also results in a blank page and importing the eps into quark express results in a grey box with the words postscript picture on it

would like any advice so I can go back to the client and tell them whats wrong with their file

    many thanks

ask what program they created the file in...what version...what platform...and tell them to check the 'save with preview' checkbox in the save dialog ( the gray box in quark means they saved 'without' a preview...but there are other issues....need more information to attempt any further assistance...

The file has been corrupted. The " Offending operator: 'C' " is pointing to where the problem lies within the PostScript code of the Illustrator file. In an "electronic environment" this sometimes just happens. The other steps you took to open/place the file point to this, also.

See if the client can resend you the file, after they are able to open it with no problems, of course (no sense in them resending you a bad file). If they are sending it via email, be sure that they are zipping or stuffing the file before they send it; sometimes files get corrupted in transit over email.

    Good luck!

You can also try to make an object on that blank doent and select all. Make sure you have show bouning box on. The art might be hiding in the upper left corner of the artboard. Sometimes art is garbled, though.
