    SHOW DATABASES doesn't show databases you have no permission for, unless you've
    got permission to see all of them. What MySQL login is phpMyAdmin using?

    I am using root ..
    while loginto mysql, show databases show them all, but not from
    phpMyadmin!?
    I may reduce the access to use another user later, after testing, but
    in the mean time ?

    Check you phpMyAdmin configuration - does $cfg['Servers'][$i]['only_db']
    contain a database name?

    What happened to your controluser and controlpass? And this looks like
    the second (or later) server in your config file. Are you trying to set
    up more than one server?

    Also, maybe we need to back up a little. How do you know you're trying
    to connect with the www user?

    Bienvenue à phpMyAdmin 2.8.2.1

    !?!?!

    when I said, in the begining, that I couldn't see all databases, it was
    because Mysql had an entry ( mysql.users ) without a name, so anybody
    could login without a password.
    Once I have corrected this, I had errors like the one above.
    Even,
    I have modified the config to connect via tcp, and reconfigure mysql to
    place the et at another place.
    Surpirse: phpMyadmin complained about not being able tto connect thru
    the socket? it should have used the tcp/ip connection to dingo:5010

    when I said, at the beging that I couldn't see databases, it was
    because there was an entry in mysql.user whitout a name, so anybody
    could connect int my Mysql server without a password :-((.
    The proble above beganas soo as I corrected this.
    OTH
    In the mean time, I have tested connecting via tcp, and reconfigured
    Mysql to place the mysql.sock at another place. But phpMyadmin kept
    complaining unable to connect thru socket!?
    So I finale reverted to previous config, but I still have the error
    above..

    No, when PHP connects to MySQL on localhost or 127.0.0.1 on Unix/Linux,
    it uses the socket and ignores the tcpip connection. That's normal
    operation (better performance).

    But if you have both a user and a control user set up in your phpMyAdmin
    config file, it should use that user instead. It will only use the
    Apache user if none is set up.

    Where are your controluser and controlpass values?

    The values I have on one of my Linux systems, which works, is:

    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = 'localhost';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['port'] = '3306';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['socket'] = '/tmp/mysqld.sock';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type'] = 'socket';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysql';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress'] = FALSE;
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser'] = 'root';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['controlpass'] = 'rootpw';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'rootpw';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['only_db'] = '';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['verbose'] = '';

    My impression is that: it use the effective ID, in this case www whyle

    If I loggin as a normal user, say aha do a su - to root and then:
    #mysql

    it connect me as user aha (effictive user id )
    if I do
    #mysql -u root -p
    Then I am connected as user root.

    I feel something simlar with phpMyQdmin
    I have been looking into the code, but of cause connecting throug the
    MysqlModule require that I have the doc which I don't have at this

    So I will probably be unable to look into this again before begining

    No, it should not be trying to connect as the Apache user. However,
    IIRC, there is something unusual about Solaris's security. Perhaps it's
    not allowing anyone running under the Apache user to log in as another user?

    I don't use Solaris, so I'm not positive.

    And have a great holiday. Wish I got three weeks of vacation :-)
