Problem with pop-up menu and linked pages
First let me state that I am a complete newb when it comes to web design. I am
in the military and "voluntarily" took on a project to redesign my squadron's
webpage.
I have created a menu bar with a pop-up menu in FW and exported everything
into my template in DW. The problem I am having is the linked pages I assigned
to the pop-up menu items in FW. In FW I assigned all the links to pages in my
"htdocs" folder. However, when I import my menu into my template in DW, all
the links in the pop-up menu are looking for the pages in "htdocs/templates".
This is my first question, why is DW telling the pop-up menu to look in the
"htdocs/templates" folder??
My second question is this; since it is looking for the pages in
"htdocs/template" I moved all the pages there. Now when previewing it in IE it
will actually go to the page but all the images don't show up. I can pull the
page up in DW and all the images are fine.
I am not sure whats going on, this problem is basically whats holding me up
from FTP'ing all my files over to the remote server as everything is done
except for figuring out whats going on with this navigation problem. Thanks in
advance for any help.

Re: Problem with pop-up menu and linked pages
Hi Adam
You don't understand about folder structure/hierarchy and relative and
absolute paths.
Here's an article that might help. If not, do a search on the above terms:
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_13842
Also it's important to remember that if you move files around in dreamweaver
(just grab & drag into the folders you want) DW will ask you if you want to
update. If you say yes it's the paths that are being updated.
However, if you move files around outside of dreamweaver (say just in the
folders itself) the paths in you files aren't updated. You'll have to do that
yourself, which is what happened to your images.
Now this htdocs/templates thing I don't quite get. I don't use fireworks.
Maybe someone else can address working in Fireworks.
Meanwhile I can't tell you step by step how to fix it all in DW, not being
able to see what you're working with but the tools you need are: the 'files' &
'properties' panels open. Go to window and select them if not open. The files
panel will show you your directory structure. The property panel will have the
link field and if you use the target beside is and drag from the target over to
the file you want in the files panel DW will make the path for you (or you can
browse).
Hope that helps somewhat.
Good luck
