Default Problems exporting PDFs via Distiller

    hi there,
does anyone know, why all fonts are given new names like GEN_Arial instead of Arial, when I export PDFs via Distiller. This does not happen with the native export of FH.
The Problem is, that these GEN Fonts are not editable and searchable.

This occurs with FH10&FHMX in either combination with Acrobat 5 or 6 (windows system)

    thanks in advance

Anytime FH is building a PostScript output stream with embedded fonts, it
will convert all TrueType fonts to PS. To avoid conflicts, it alters the
font name by adding the GEN (for "generated") prefix.

The only ways to avoid the "GEN" prefix are to not embed fonts (EPS export
option only) or to only use PS fonts, avoiding TrueType fonts like Arial.

    Hi David,

thanks for your answer, but it seems that not only TrueType Fonts are converted in Type1 (GEN) Fonts.
I tried to create a PDF with several Type1 Fonts and all were convertetd into these GEN Fonts.

Is there an option in the printing menu which I have to set?

    Thanks!

    Hi, Everyone,
I've been having the same problem, when embedding either/ both TrueType and Type1/Postscript fonts in my PDFs, they morph into the dreaded "Gen_" fonts in the PDF. (FreeHand 10/WinXPPro) It happens whether I print from FreeHand directly to Distiller to make the PDF, or if I print to a Postscript file and then use Distiller to make the PDF from the Postscript file. It's very frustrating. Any workarounds would be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Rosalita
