Default Problems Printing to Acrobat Distiller 5.05 on Windows XP/2000

    Problem:
After upgrade to 5.05 on our network, and 5 McAfee updates, Printing to Distiller fails.
System just sits there. On other messages noticed there could be conflicts with older version or registries.

    Uninstalled Adobe.
Ran “find” Adobe in Regedit, and deleted all registries with Adobe, Acrobat and Distiller in it.
Re-installed Acrobat 5.05. Adobe on it's own works good now, very fast.

    Printing problem persists:
Print any .txt or .doc or .xls or (Acad) .dwg into Distiller.
    PC hangs up.

Forcing Alt-Ctrl-Delete starts up Task Manager.
Print window opens with “save file as..?”

However, keyboard is locked up (and so are all other programs, Task Manager window options do not work either)

Forcing a Second time Alt-Ctrl-Delete to get to Task Manager.

    1. Task Manager now works. AcroTray goes to 3320Kb
    2. Key entries work again,. One can now type the desired xxx.pdf filename for any of the documents above to be saved as .PDF.

Print to Distiller opens Acrobat, conversion to PDF takes a few seconds, even larger documents or large Acad .dwg drawings.

    Viewing taskmanager:
The only change before and after is:
AcroTray Mem Usage went from 1800Kb (hanging up) to 3320Kb (working fine).
With that process running, printing to Distiller works fine, as long as PC stays on....

Advise (other bulleting) copy AcroTray to Startup.
    Copied AcroTray.exe into:
    C:\\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. (size 117Kb, created 10/11/2001)
Reboot PC. Checked that AcroTray is running, but at lower Kb.

    Problem persists:
hangs up when print into PDFmaker, as well as into Acrobat Distiller.
Force Tasm Manager twice (Alt-Ctrl-Delete), opens print window, save as xxxx.pdf and all work again if lucky.

    Next tried: Printers settings.

Printing preferences Adobe PDF settings disabled (unclicked) Do not send fonts to Distiller.

No difference. Start PC and problem persists. Now it takes 3 x Task Manager forcing to get to print to Distiller.

Out of options, advise is welcome.

What do you mean by "upgrading to 5.05 on our network"? Isn't Acrobat
installed locally on each computer where it is used?

Yes, it is installed on each computer locally, licensed,
through corporate server and some "Radia" program.
But I also tried installation with CD, same result.
