Re: Problems reducing file size
Any anti-virus running?
Does this still occur with a couple of pages from the Acrobat help guide?

Re: Problems reducing file size
Another thread with the same issue suggests using an Admin account. I had the same issue, but an account with Administrator rights can run Reduce File Size without any problems. I'm guessing that it might be a permission issue.

Re: Problems reducing file size
I'm getting exactly the same message both using reduce file size and in the optimize image command. I am an administrator. Any help would be desperately appreciated.

Jill,
Try to use Disk Utilities to fix permissions. Also try to run under
another account.

Re: Problems reducing file size
Didn't work at all. No joy here! All ideas welcome. Doesn't adobe offer a web based pdf maker and/or reduce file size function?

Re: Problems reducing file size
Let me also say that this is the first document that this has occurred in. Only one issue of a magazine we produce. I've always been able to use the reduce file size command with this administrator account and can reduce other files easily... just not this one.
Is this a bug??? Sure seems like other people are seeing it both in the quark and indesign support forums too.
Any suggestions and advice welcome!

Re: Problems reducing file size
Also we've tried and are systematically removing images, one at a time, from the document... again with no luck.
I've also tried the optimizer and turned off the image optimization function entirely and its still occurring.

Re: Problems reducing file size
Removing images did nothing... however when we split the document insections (i.e. started printing out portions of the document to see if we could isolate the one page or image that the error was coming from) we were able to reduce the file size. So, out of a 24 page full color magazine in pdf format.. pages 1-10 printed and reduced just fine. Pages 11-24 printed and reduced just fine. I mean, how weird is that. Yet we couldn't get the entire document to reduce in its entirety.
Still awaiting any comments.

Re: Problems reducing file size
To the original question about the frozen cursor when selecting "Reduce File SIze", a couple of other posts state that the problem may be with the user account not having Admin rights. However, I had not seen this issue prior to upgrading to OS X 10.4.7 and Acrobat 7.0.8.
