Problems with buttons created in Indesignwhen exported to Acrobat PDF
Mac OS X version 10.3.9
Dual 2.5Ghz PowerPC G5
Indesign version: 3.0.1
Acrobat version: 7.0.8
Firstly we have created some interactive buttons on pages in an Indesign document and behaviours are applied to them. We then export the pages from Indesign to PDF using the Export option using the ebook setting.
The Indesign document has some pages that need to be rotated in Acrobat to be portrait rather than landscape the interactive buttons on these pages where placed appropriately in the Indesign document so they would be in the correct position when the pages are rotated in Acrobat. However, on these pages the buttons do not appear in the PDF document when viewed. The cursor does change to recognise the presence of a button in the position it should be, but it is not shown and the behaviours applied to the buttons don’t appear to work. Other pages in the document are fine the buttons are shown and behaviours applied work fine.
If I export these problem pages as singles they appear OK with buttons and behaviours. But when I insert them into the complete PDF document the buttons disappear.
I have checked the visibility options for the interactive buttons and they should be visible.
We have also tried many tweaks in the export options but to no avail.
Has anyone had similar problems with buttons created in Indesign being exported to PDF?

YOu could add those buttons to the pages needing rotation in acrobat directly.
I imagine those buttons on the IDCS pages that you rotate in Acrobat don't like having their page orientation changed after they've had buttons applied. MY guess.

I'd agree with Janet (without having actually tried this myself). I'd use the Button tool in Acrobat Professional to add the buttons or edit them.

Re: Problems with buttons created in Indesignwhen exported to Acrobat PDF
Thanks Janet & Steve.
The only problem I have with adding the buttons in Acrobat is that there are no 'master pages' in Acrobat to easily place buttons onto every page as there are in Indesign. There isn't even an X: Y: location tool or even a 'paste in place' option available. I'd also have to make sure the buttons created in Acrobat looked exactly like the custom buttons we created in Indesign.
The document I am creating is 450 pages long so using rulers and guides isn't an option either really.

Re: Problems with buttons created in Indesignwhen exported to Acrobat PDF
Nope, I think you are mistaken. In Acrobat, with the button tool active, you can right click and duplicate to any number of pages.
Sorry for the delay but I don't check all the forums regularly.

Re: Problems with buttons created in Indesignwhen exported to Acrobat PDF
Thank you for the tip Janet. It has made my life easier.
We are still having problems with disappearing buttons though.

Re: Problems with buttons created in Indesignwhen exported to Acrobat PDF
Art linked to image frames in InDesign is embedded/translated to postscript when the page is pdfed. Rollovers with various image states in the resulting pdf no longer have links to the original art but have imaged fine here.
I'm using Acrobat 8 and haven't had any image problems even using native psd files in InDesign but have seen the submit action fail to translate to the form.

Re: Problems with buttons created in Indesignwhen exported to Acrobat PDF
On newsgroup so cannot see the initial thread but ..
conversion via postscript will not convert the *special* features such
as bookmarks, structure/tags, layers, hyperlinks, comments etc., etc ...
Postscript is a grampa !
If you EXPORT and select the correct PDF version and options in the
DIALOGUE box - this should ensure correct transition providing the
original content is correct also ...
