Problems with Distiller - URGENT - client deadline tomorrow !!!!
I'm running with Acrobat 5 on Windows XP - been using it OK for many months (Distiller appeared as an option in my printers) but lately have had problems with error messages. Reinstalled and found PDFWriter was now offered instead of Distiller (which is still there as a program).
Uninstalled and reinstalled again - now only my two USB HP printers are showing as installed, I REALLY need to be able to print a client proposal on Acrobat for tomorrow - any suggestions on how to get Distiller visible as a printing option?
Is this anything to do with the updates Acrobat keeeps installing when I log on - a sneaky way to get me to upgrade?? <grin>

Re: Problems with Distiller - URGENT - client deadline tomorrow !!!!
PDFWriter is not a good option if it even loads. The Distiller printer requires a PS printer to be installed. On XP, I think you have to install the generic MS PS printer before trying to install the Distiller printer. I am not sure, it has been a while since I have done the installation. However, this should at least give you something to look for. You might also be able to download an Adobe PS driver also that would meet the need better.

Re: Problems with Distiller - URGENT - client deadline tomorrow !!!!
See if this helps.
Go to Printers folder in Windows XP (or find it through Control Panel).
Go ADD PRINTER and add the distiller printer. You should be able to find the PPD in Program Files / Adobe / Acrobat 5 / Distiller / Extras. You can also install extra Job Option files in Job Options folder.
If having trouble finding the PPD, then do a search for the PPD and copy it to the folder above.
If not, download a postscript PPD printer file from Adobe website and place it in the folder desribed above.

Re: Problems with Distiller - URGENT - client deadline tomorrow !!!!
Here's what you want to do:
1. Delete any old drivers:
- Click Start > Printers & Faxes
- Right-click > Delete on Adobe PDFWriter and Acrobat Distiller (if present)
- Click File > Server Properties
- Click on the Ports tab and remove any PDF ports visible
- Click on the Drivers tab and delete Acrobat PDFWriter and "AdobePS Acrobat Distiller" if present.
2. Restart the computer
3. Re-install Acrobat 5.0 using a Typical install (just install on top, don't uninstall first).
You should now have your Acrobat Distiller printer in Printers & Faxes.
