Problems with MPW-GM 3.5 and Finder in OS 9.2.2 - Mac Programming

Hello, I just downloaded MPW-GM version 3.5 for use in Mac OS 9.2.2 (not in Classic). The MPW shell works great, but the Finder keeps crashing and restarting repeatedly, even if I am just scrolling a text window. Is this a problem with the OS, the MPW, or an extension conflict? Has anybody else has this problem? Is there any way to fix it, besides downloading a new version (I am on dialup and the 25 MB download took three hours!) Thank you for your attention. --Jack (aka River City Random)...

I vaguely remember that problem... it's an interaction between some code
in MPW and a change in the OS (around 8, 8.5 or 9) that caused it. I
don't think you can do anything but download an update or downgrade to
an older OS version, though I'm not sure whether there is a version of
MPW that fixed this bug (but there may be, I simply don't remember
    hearing either way).

There were some other apps that had that problem back then, and all of
those got updates from their manufacturers to fix this.

I'm using MPW-GM on an 867 MHz single cpu G4, without any real problems.

I have used the software under OS 9.2.2 as OS, and also under classic with
    OS 10.2.8 as boot system.

Here's the info as to where and when I downloaded the version that works for me:

MPW-GM.img.bin was downloaded on April 25, 2004 from
    ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Tool_Chest/Core_Mac_OS_Tools/MPW_etc./MPW-GM_Images/

After using Stuffit on this .bin file, it becomes MPW-GM.img, and a
    getinfo on MPW-GM.img gives:

    Kind: read-only disk image

Size: 23.9 MB on disk (25,109,468 Bytes)

    Created: Fri Aug 10, 2001, 7:20 AM

    Modified: Fri Aug 10, 2001, 7:25 AM

Version: Mac (TM) OS HFS 76717K image
    CRC: $00E9ABF

BTW, my OS 9.2.2 came pre-loaded from Apple on my G4, and some changes
have been made to OS 9.2.2, as Classic, by updates to OS 10.2 thru OS
    10.2.8.
