Problems with Plug-In
I sent a publication to a translation service and they wrote me with...
"We can open the InDesign document fine, but the problem is when I click on the pictures, InDesign tells me that I need the plug-in called InBooklet and then InDesign closes."
First I tried mailing them the missing plug-in, that didn't work so then I asked them to trash their preferences in hopes that it would correct the problem but I got a reply back from them saying...
"Nope didn't work.
Here's the error we're getting. Program Error. Indesign.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. This happens every time we click on a graphic"
Now I have asked them to download the ID301en.exe patch and maybe this will correct the problem.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how did you correct it? I am in suspense to find out if this is what the problem is because I got another response from them saying
"We can only spend about another 10 minutes on this until later tonight. We have to be out of here by 4."
I guess it's past 4 wherever they are and I will not get an answer from them until tomorrow. This project was due on the 8th and it's already past due!
If anyone has any suggestions please post them. Any help is appreciated.
They are using InDesign CS with the PageMaker plug-in pack but I don't know if they have ran the update yet so I suggested they do that because I know there is a fix for a similar issue included with the update.
TIA

Re: Problems with Plug-In
This would be an excellent opportunity for you to use that InBooklet plugin to create an imposition and then send the trouble-free PDF.
You could check with technical support at ALAP.com (they are excellent) but I suspect that there is a deeper problem with the document and the missing plugin warning is just there because InDesign is too confused to say anything more relevant. I successfully send documents out all the time to others that do not have InBooklet.

Re: Problems with Plug-In
The document I sent has nothing to do with InBooklet. That's the weird part. I didn't use InBooklet for the composition.

How are they supposed to work with a PDF? They need the native files so they can edit the words and placed diagrams.

Re: Problems with Plug-In
You don't need to have used a plugin to affect a document. There may be a bug with the version of InBooklet that you have. Or the document may be corrupted to think that it needs InBooklet.
Now I have asked them to download the ID301en.exe patch and maybe this
will correct the problem
The problem with your document is understandable if they were trying to open your document in a different version of InDesign (even 3.0 vs 3.0.1).

Re: Problems with Plug-In
So do you think all I need to do is have them install the proper update and it will resolve this issue? She said that the patch was 6MB from Adobe but the patch I got was 12,000KB, 11.8 MB or 12,389,734 bytes.
I just now sent her the patch via e-mail and I am waiting on a response from her. I really hope this works because if it doesn't, I'm stumped.

Re: Problems with Plug-In
Not good!
I got a response from her and she said...
I Installed Indesign CS on our other machine, Installed the PMPack, Installed the 12.1 MB Update (ID301.en.exe), and Installed the InBooklet/Palette Scripting update (6.0 MB from Adobe). I tried rebooting the machine and I'm still getting the same thing. Every time I click (with the solid arrow tool) It crashes the program and closes Indesign CS. Even when I create a new document with CS (After all the updates) it crashes when I add any graphics and try to select them.
Our InDesign CS CD has some scratches on it. Maybe that is what the problem is. It seems to work fine without all the updates.
Unfortunately we are leaving Thursday morning for a long weekend to go visit Mike's parents. His sister who we haven't seen for over 4 years will be there. We won't be back until Monday night. So at this point it's getting to late to finish the project even if I could get it to work on my end.
I do know someone who is very good and also does multilingual DTP work. I know that she has InDesign, but am not sure if she's upgraded to CS yet. I believe that she's still working on 2.0.
Her name is Marina and her email address is. someone.smith@something.net
Needless to say, I am very upset and I don't know what the heck I'm going to do with this project.
Someone please help! :/
