Problems with printing illustrator files

I'm getting weird results when printing illustrator files, so far the only successful results i've had is when I rasterize. Success = the same result on print as on screen. It appears to become a problem only when applying gradients and shadows. The individual illustrator element gets a darker box around it. To get an answer I think you have to state:

a) Version of AI,
b) Details on how you are printing.

a) I'm using illustrator cs
b) when printing from indesign or illustrator itself i get the result as shown in [url]www.rothor.no/misprint.htm[/url]. In the print summary box i get three error warnings:
- the document raster effects resolution is 72 ppi or less
- the document contains artwork that requires flattening
- the document contains rgb images.

I've been trying to experiment with pdf distiller settings without getting any clear picture of what's wrong, but as stated above; any element with shadows and gradients gets distorted when printed.

I am using AI10, and I always use PDF for printing; I hope someone more qualified can give the answers.

Have you looked at Edit>Transparency flattener Presets?
