Default Problems with Text Flowing Around Objects

    I have two problems here.

    1) I have a series of bullet points that use Indent to Here to make the entire point indent past the bullet. When I try to word wrap the bullet points around an image, the Indent to Here stops working (everything becomes flush left to the image's text wrap). Is there any way to do this, or does word wrap override any Indent to Here settings that I want to use? Does anyone know of a workaround?

    2) In the same situation, the Keep Lines Together option is not applied. This leaves me with only one line before a page break, despite me setting it to keep at least 2 lines before and 2 lines at the end.

I am assuming that the word wrap around an image overrides all other settings. Is there an easy/good way to override the override in certain situations?

I am using InDesign 2.0.2 with all available updates installed. My machine is a Windows XP machine, 2.4 Ghz, 256 Mb of Ram.

I've checked the help files and reference books and searched the forums and knowledgebase here, but didn't find any reference to this issue. Any help is appreciated.

Try a new approach and abandon the indent to here. Instead, create a paragraph style named, say, Body Bulleted or Hang Tab or the like, and give it a left indent of a certain amount and then a first line indent of the same, but negative, amount. Carefully set a tab to the same measure as the left indent. This is a classically correct hanging or bulleted style. It is more dependable than a shortcut like indent to here which inserts an invisible character in the flow of text.

It probably won't behave better next to complex text wrap, because text wrap trumps over these margin settings. It may not do any better but is a better production method.

Your situation 2 shouldn't be happening. Maybe InDesign can't do it because of other Keeps Options on the preceding or following paragraphs?

Looks like you will have to change the design a bit.

The problem here is that the indent to here approach would be the right one to use if you anticipate a hanging indent being affected by a text wrap.

But, there's a bug in 2.0.2 which breaks this behavior. It's fixed in CS.

It doesn't look very fixed to me, Dave. What is better?

Ah, to tell the truth I rarely use indent to here. I was under the impression that serious problems in 2.0.2 had been fixed in CS, but now you mention it, I don't really know that.
