Programming 3D book recommendations?
Any recommendations of books on programming / working with director 3D?
preferably for someone coming from a JavaScript / ActionScript background.
(Want to avoid learning lingo for now if I can).
Many thanks,
John.

Re: Programming 3D book recommendations?
Learning lingo is unavoidable if you want to work with 3D in director. However
this book help me no end when I moved from Flash to director.

Re: Programming 3D book recommendations?
Thanks for the recommendation, when you say learning lingo is unavoidable if
you want to work with 3D, does that mean the 3D api in director doesn't
function with the new JavaScript syntax in Director MX 2004?
Thanks
John.

Re: Programming 3D book recommendations?
No, sorry. From what I understand the 3D asset of director is still available
through javascript. Didn't mean to scare you. The recommendation still remains
though as it explains clearly the structure of the 3Dcastmember, which helps
clear the fog a fair bit when approaching it for the first time.

Re: Programming 3D book recommendations?
i agree with jonathan. if you're only going to get one book, get
director's third dimension: fundamentals of 3d programming in
director. not only will you get very good detailed info on 3d in
director, but also imaging lingo and some color, lighting and
composition theory as well.
also very good is:
macromedia director 8.5 shockwave studio for 3D: training from the
source
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0201741644/qid=1089200543/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/103-0504704-9464627?v=glance&s=books
this book has some usefull info on textureCoordinateList that's not
covered in catanese's 3rd dimension book.
and i just got:
director shockwave studio developer's guide
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0072132655/qid=1089201000/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-0504704-9464627?v=glance&s=books
like i say, i just got this one but from what i've been able to tell
by skimming through it it's fantastic. it covers imaging lingo and 3d.
and man what a bargain! i used the "used and new" option on the amazon
dot com page, and shipping and all i paid under EIGHT DOLLARS for it!
