If you intend people to actually see your content, then they need to be
able to save and download it. Or they can't see it. All shockwave
content (and flash and other embedded media) ill be downloaded
automatically to the user's browser cache before or during playback. If
you block that, then no one will be able to play it.

You can, though do a check to see if it is playing from your site or
not, and make it not play if the address is not coming from your domain.

How can I check if it is playing from my site or not?

You can check the moviePath. If it starts with your domain name, then
it is on your server. If not, then tell it to halt

Oh man, that's great, thanx! I'd thought I'd read somewhere that _movie.path
only worked during authoring or in projectors so I've never even tried using it
in a shockwave piece! this opens up a lot of possibilities.

I wonder how many other things in Director I've been assuming wrongly about?

The only time that the moviePath fails is in Authoring, if the movie has
    not yet been saved.

And it doesn't really fail, since before it is saved, there is not a
path, so when it returns empty, it is correctly returning a somewhat
    useless value.
