Default PS Elements 2 hangs on opening

I would like to know what to try to fix it. It's beginning to become a major annoyance. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. I have tried clearing the prefs. I am at a loss for what to try next. Please help!

    Michiel,

Are you on XP? There was a patch recently (Q811493 I think) that was causing a similar problem. Uninstalling the patch solved the problem. After that reinstalling the patch is okay, since Microsoft has since posted an updated version.

I avoided 811493 like the plague it was. Besides that problem, it was not necessary for most people. It blocked a vulnerability that a hacker could take control of your machine, but for the hacker to actually do so, he would first require access to your machine. So, in a nutshell, I don't have that patch installed.

I just tried uninstalling, deleting all remains of the software in Program Files\Common Files, Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Adobe\, and cleared all registry entries. There should have been no remain of any Adobe software on my machine. Yet when I reinstalled, the problem persisted. Anything else I might try? I am truly at a loss.

    Paul,

At what point does it freeze...what is the program loading according to the splash screen? If it should be so easy as to be the 'font' part, it's a simple fix.

I think many of us "forget" that not all Win machines are Pentiums. Maybe us forum brainstormers have to add that to the list of information we request from people when they're having problems. Clearly the type of processor can be important every once in a while.
