Purchased PluginLab Vertical & Horizontal Flyout Menu
Purchased PluginLab Vertical & Horizontal Flyout Menu, V1.4 Dreamweaver plugins
(Macromedia Dreamweaver Exchange top picks). After trying to use them, I
noticed that I had problems when placing multiple dropdown menus on one
webpage. The companies response to this problem is below. No where on their
website or documentation did I read that Pluginlab horizontal and vertical
menus do not allow multiple instances of the same type menu on a webpage. Is
this a JavaScript limitation or one built into Pluginlab horizontal and
vertical menus? Do other dropdown plugin programs have this limitation?
Thanks for your help.
"Pluginlab horizontal and vertical menus do not allow multiple instances of
the same type menu on a page. For example, you can have one vertical menu and
one horizontal menu on a page, but you cannot have two vertical or two
horizontal menus on a page (unless they are in a different frame or
iframe).":disgust;

Some "plugin programs" may have this limitation, but others do not. Take
a look at the menu extensions at
http://www.projectseven.com/extensions/listing.htm I think that they do
not have this limitation.
And perhaps take a look at

There are probably more, but my brain ain't working so well this
afternoon. Take a look around the Exchange for more menu extensions:

Yes, it is a limitation of the script that they wrote. Just wish they offered
this tidbit upfront before I put out the money to purchase the plugin. The
same goes for Macromedia for putting this product on there top downloads.
Thanks for the links to other resources for dropdown menu plugins.

modern, valid, accessible, CSS-based menu system. But they didn't. But
it is difficult to assess a web development tool made in 2005 by a
company who seemingly cannot (or will not) use valid web authoring
techniques on their own site. A trip to the W3C validator yields this:
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pluginlabs.com%2Fhome.a sp
I'm sorry for the rant, but I am sick of seeing this kind of stuff
promoted when there are quality tools available. It's just not fair to
users and it's not fair to Macromedia. But, alas, quality is in the eye
of the beholder :-)
Our Pop Menu Magic produces the cleanest, most accessible menu system
that can be. But because of its CSS roots, there can only be one menu
system on a page. There would simply be too much extra CSS to deal with
and inspecting the menu (to automate editing) would be difficult. For
special applications, where discrete menu systems might be disired on
the same page, we have a plethora of free extensions that can get the
job done - only requiring that one takes the time to learn how to use
the extensions and write the requisite markup and CSS.

Re: Purchased PluginLab Vertical & Horizontal FlyoutMenu
Thank you. I'm going to "try" to set up Pluginlab horizontal and vertical
menus using iframes as their surport person advised. I have stayed away from
frames mainly because tables do a better job formating webpages. As for
iframes, I have never used them (especially since my government agency still
uses Netscape 4.75 web browser, which does not support iframes), but will give
it a try. I wish I had seen your website product FIRST. This work around that
Pluginlab suggests is not why I purchased their product. I wanted to "easily"
create horizontal and vertical dropdown menus, not learn JavaScript and
iframes. Below is the text on the email I sent to Pluginlab. Their only
response was what is written above in my previous posting.
"On http://www.nero.noaa.gov/indexcss1.html, I have two Pluginlab vertical
menus and two Pluginlab horizontal menus. I have yet to add any dropdown
features to the menus. If you look at vertical menus, you will see that the
second vertical menu listed under "Features" overwrites the first vertical menu
listed under "Topics" (except for the last menu item). Strangely though, if I
place a another horizontal menu on top, as on
http://www.nero.noaa.gov/indexcss2.html, the two vertical menus now work
correctly. However, now the top vertical menu is over written by the last
vertical menu (it should look like the second vertical menu)."
Thanks again for getting back to me.
