Default Q? on Attaching a Signature to a Document

Im working on a salesletter etc.. and I need to attache a SIGNATURE.
Is there a standard way of doing it?

Is this normally included by a client in pdf, jpg format when submitting to a designer? (I havent yet encounter a client [student])

Do you mean a digital signature to the PDF afterwards, or the signature that
we can use to pay our bills with your credit card?

If you mean a letter like:
    blah blah blah
    Sincerely yours,
    John Doe

Where "John Doe" is handwriting, then you can scan the person's signature in any of the acceptable graphic formats (TIF, EPS, PSD, JPEG, etc.) provided the scan is of sufficient resolution for its ultimate destination, and place it in InDesign.

If the signature will be on a textured or colored background, we may need to add some caveats.

    To add to Alan's advice:

If this is a pen-on-paper signature, then scan it is at your scanner's highest resolution in grayscale. Use levels in Photoshop to get the background as close to white and the ink as close to black as you can. Use Filter->Noise->Median to clean up stray pixels (white pixels in signature and black pixels on paper will be reduced). Erase ALL stray black pixels in the paper and paint over ALL stray white pixels in the ink. Change Mode to Bitmap (50% threshold, maintaining the same resultion) and save as TIFF. I recommend LZW compression, as that will not cost anything in terms of compatibility or image quality, yet reduce the file to less than 10% of its uncompressed size.

Now, Place this image in InDesing, and you can colour it whatever you like, so you can simulate signing in blue ink. Porvided you kept the resolution very high, you will be free to scale and rotate it to your heart's contnet, and it will still print out razon sharp, even on press.

Also, consider nesting the graphic within the text frame so it will flow with the text.
