I partially answered my own question after visiting a local shop. QR
adapter is _part_ of Bogen 3030 head, and cannot be taken off w/o
    a saw.

Could somebody please tell me about rest of the two heads whether QR
adapter can be removed, swapped to, or used on another head?

what is the issue with the quick release?

if you don't like the system, why not buy a different pod, or at least a
    head from a different maker.

but I'm sure bogen makes non QR heads, just look or email them.

Not sure about the Bogens, but the QR is removable from the Velbon ball
heads. The excellent Velbon QR system is also available separately to
    use with other tripod heads.

I've looked at a lot of QR systems, and the Velbon system is one of the
best. Very light, very safe, very quick and easy to use.

Thanks Lisa, that helped immensely. Since the QR adapter is
integrated in 3030 head, by extension, i assume same would be true
for 3410 (until someone corrects me).

I am looking for QRA-635 adapter which seem to be absent from USA,
instead of QRA-635L, as the plates for QRA-635 costs $23 which are
about half the price ($50) for the L version plates ... unless
QB-635 plates could be used on QRA-635L.

BTW, no need to convince me to buy Velbon QR system. I was already
inclined to Velbon due to yours & others' past messages on the
    subject.

I haven't looked for one in a number of years, but there used to be
"add on", or non-OEM QR adapters (and plates) made by at least a few
manufacturers. I'm positive I've seen a few of these come up on e-Bay
in the past year. Those intended for smaller equipment (e.g. 35mm)
often had a round plate which seated in the adapter.. These all were
mounted to the tripod, or other item, via a standard 1/4" threaded
hole. Don't know if they are still on the market, but if not then
checking e-Bay will turn some up (at least eventually).
