QT slow to load on mac?
i'm hoping someone out there can help with a frustrating QT problem..?
i am in process of making a dual format cd...
within my director movie there is an option to view a QT movie - this loads
(almost) instantaneously when viewing from the pc.
the problem is when viewing on the mac the QT movie takes about 45 secs to
load, pausing everything on screen until it is available...?
i have tried pre-loading the QT at the start of the movie but this stalls
the streaming of my background audio and is equally unproffessional?
my QT movie is 7.5mb - not particularly huge..?
any suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks in advance...

Re: QT slow to load on mac?
Are you using any memory control in the Director movie? How large is
the whole movie and how much memory is available on each of these
computers?
If there is memory space available, then the QT movie should load
instantly. QT files will stream from the source when they are called by
Director. If there is no space available in memory, then Director will
have to clear out space before it can to load in the QT file.

Re: QT slow to load on mac?
thanks for replying rob...
> Are you using any memory control in the Director movie?>> no, nothing specific - maybe this is where i'm going wrong..?these computers?> How large is the whole movie and how much memory is available on each of
of ram. the mac (OS9) has virtual memory turned on = 769mb / disk cache =>> my main movie is 3.84mb with 4 external casts = 30.4mb. the pc has 992mb
8160k / ram disk = turned off (someone told me this is best but seems to
make no difference whether on or off anyway?)

Re: QT slow to load on mac?
Aha! If you're running OS 9 then you have to set the memory partition
for your projector. While you have lots of available memory, you
probably aren't making it available to the Mac projector. Macs running
OS 9 and earlier use a memory management system that allocates specific
amounts of memory to each active application.
If you select your projector from the finder and then open the
information window, you will see the memory allocation for that app.
Change it to a higher value and see if there's a change.
You can also use the memory inspector to show you how much memory you
are using during authoring. Look in the online help for more
information on how to use the memory inspector. It's inexplicably
missing from the Mac version of Director MX.
If you are going to be changing the memory allocation of the projector
by a large margin, be sure to include information on the minimum memory
requirements of the movie with your movie. This should be part of the
product specification.
Additionally, if need to increase the memory allocation by a large
margin, you should look at ways to control the use of memory by your
movie.
