While I'm no fan of Quark, what you're doing is no better than placing
ID generated PDFs in Quark.
Just RIP the PDFs.
All that said, it's really impossible to diagnose what's going on
without knowing what exactly is happening to those PDFs or how they were
created? Were they exported from Quark? Distilled?
And what are your ID settings? Do you have simulate overprint enabled?
If so, you shouldn't.

Re: quark pdf with drop shadows wont separatewhen placed in indesignCS2
Hi Bob
The client has tried both ways and is using acrobat7 as well the only time the shadow doesn't work is when its over a pms color
the settings are for press quality, im not sure where to check for the simulate overprint can you help me with that? When shadow is over pms color the black plate has a screen of black or 100% black in what seems to be the picture box. All our press layouts are in IndesignCS2 because of the great trapping feature. Any help with this would be great!!
Thank you

There's something up here, but I'm not sure what it is right now. I even
tried to export the file as an EPS from Acrobat and that's not
separating properly either.

Re: quark pdf with drop shadows wont separatewhen placed in indesignCS2
I tried that also, and i tried placing file in indesign and saving that as a pdf. (did not work) I have also tried placing it in quark 6.5 because we don't have quark 7 and that just would not go to rip. I was thinking that because it prints good out of acrobat 7 and strange out of IndesignCS2 maybe CS2 is missing some kind of filter? Did you get a strange screen in background of the black plate?
Thank you
