Not having followed what is being developed for the pre-OS X world in
the past year, I _think_ the only newsreader for 9 that handles yEnc
is Thoth. The OS 9 versions of NewsWatcher and MT-NW "lose" some of the
bytes, resulting in corrupt files that can't be decoded even by a
    dedicated yEnc decoder.

If you want to continue using NewsWatcher as your "reader", you could
probably get by with a dedicated yEnc-capable downloader -- PixNewsPro.

MT-NW works just fine for yenc files. I've downloaded GB of such files
    through it, and they're fine.

    Howard,

Since you decided to post rudely, I'll respond in kind: You're smoking
something illegal if you think the OS 9 version handles yEnc. I never
claimed that there was a problem with the OS X version (which is what
the headers say you're using). Learn to read what you're responding to
    before you post.

To quote the MT-NewsWatcher web pages in the FAQ:

I stand by my statement: The _OS 9_ version (3.1) loses/strips some
bytes, corrupting the download. As Simon wrote in his FAQ, there is an
    "ugly workaround" via Export.

Sorry about replying to my own post -- but I just remembered that
Hogwaser was supposed to have a carbon version that run on pre-OSX
systems, that might be another solution if the OP just doesn't like
    Thoth for some reason.

(Can't verify this myself, as I couldn't run the version of the
carbonlib required by Hogwasher for some reason).
