Question: AppleCare - Missing Serial
Can a powerbook be serviced from the serial number obtained from OS if the
serial in the battery bay is missing? I was looking to buy a used one, and
learned the serial number was missing, although everything else seems to
check out (OS serial matches serial on box, invoice).
Thanks,
Ian

found on the product itself, that's what it's there for. But why in the
world is the physical serial number missing?

battery bay is missing, you may be purchasing a stolen PowerBook -- why
else would the serial number be removed?

Perhaps. BUT "missing" and "removed" are not the same. Maybe it was never
stamped into it [consider it a "bug" or "typo"]. This is just another
possibility, and you may be 100% right and your suspicions are correct.
