questions on photo gear
Hi Photogs,
I am sure this question has been asked before:
I am looking for some gear to carry my stuff while I go
photo-walking. I currently have a shoulder-bag in
which I stuff all my camera and lens equipment and
I carry my tripod in my hand [rather inconvenient].
My problem is that whenever I want to stop and
look thru the viewfinder, I need to drop my tripod
on the ground, put the bag on the ground, open it
etc. etc. etc.
1) my main question is that is there any kind of
equipment out there which makes it easy to
lug a tripod [so that is attaches to the side
of your body, for example] and once can
just yank it out when one wants.
2) I'd like to invest in a holster kind of attachment bag
so that my main camera with a lens attached
is always accessible to me without having to keep
opening my main bag again and again.
Any suggestions for these ?
3) finally, I'd like to buy a backpack for carrying
other lenses and backup camera etc in case
I need them.
any advice on what choices should I make in the
above or in general will be appreciated.
thanks a bunch !

Get a Monopod and you can use this as a walking stick too!

Yes, I have a tripod strap made by Op/Tech that I sling over my shoulder.> 1) my main question is that is there any kind of

Two loops, one for either end of your tripod, and a comfortable strap in
between. It's great for walk-and-stop excursions. When I need to use the
tripod, the quick release buckles make accessibility a breeze and I only
have to drape the strap around my neck until it's time to move on again.
I got mine years ago and can't find a label on it but it's one of the best> 2) I'd like to invest in a holster kind of attachment bag

purchases I ever made. It has a simple, adjustable web belt and webbing that
supports the weighted camera holster down the length and across the
front/bottom where the lens is. It also has a small zip pouch on the lid for
extra filters, etc. My main suggestion is for you to get one big enough for
your camera with your longest lens. A smaller holster bag came with my
camera that was too inconvenient when I switched to a longer lens and didn't
want to switch back for awhile but had to merely to get the camera back into
the holster.
Sorry, can't help there. I tried a backpack once and missed some great> 3) finally, I'd like to buy a backpack for carrying

helicopter-rescue shots of a fallen climber when I was delayed by having to
move to a location where I could safely take the backpack off my back, set
it down, open it, and get what I needed. After that incident, I got zippered
lens cases that attach to the belt of my camera holster so everything is on
my waist and immediately accessible.
You're welcome.> any advice on what choices should I make in the

Re: questions on photo gear
I still use my old Quest Vest. I can carry all my stuff and not have
to sit stuff down...ruffle through a bag for something...it's all right
there. Works as good with the 10D as it did for my Hasselblads and
Pentax 6x7.
