Well, we never exactly determined what was causing the out-of-sync issue. We know the problem was not with our video production process because the out-of-sync issue also occurred with movie trailers accessed through Quicktime.com.

The out-of-sync error does not occur on all WinXP machines. Through our limited testing, it appears the issue is only on non-Pentium machines, but we didn't test every chip. There was also speculation that the issue was somehow tied to the Sorenson codec, but again, we didn't do a ton of testing.

Our solution is to go with the MPEG-1 video format and use the MPEG Advance XTRA from Tabuleiro. In our limited testing with the MPEG video format, it appeared to play back well in all media players, with the exception of QuickTime on WinXP.
