Quicktime software installation authorization?

    Default Quicktime software installation authorization?

I'm running a script that looks for the OS and installs the correct version of the Quicktime player. In OSX, when I click the link to launch the installer (which I've had point both to the unpacked .pkg file and also just to the disk image), I get the Authorization box that just says "this software cannot be installed on this computer". If I click on the .pkg or .dmg file outside of the CD, I get the normal "type in your password" box and I can continue on from there.

Two questions: one, is this an authorization problem and, if so, how do I solve the problem? And two, if this isn't an authorization issue, what is it? Thanx in advance.

Default Re: Quicktime software installation authorization?

Came up with a solution, may not be "the" solution but it works. Instead of specifying to use installer.app to mount the disk image and start the installation (or not specifying anything, which defaults to using installer.app), I used

open the moviePath&"Quicktime:Quicktime_for_10.2.dmg" with "Disk Copy.app"

This leaves the actual launching of the .pkg file to the user, outside the CD interface, instead of automating it. OSX doesn't see this as trying to get past the software installation authorization this way.

Shouldn't run into this problem with OS9, although I'll be testing it to make sure. Also will blow a machine away and install 10.1 to see if it'll work there, as well....
