Radio Button Options in Dynamic ASP Page
I had a Dreamweaver "Behaviors question" for a survey I was working on. Please
see survey link below: http://www.scif.com/SFO/Survey/SelfRegistration.asp
Question # 5 on the survey gives the user to choose from one of the radio
buttons YES or NO and then gives an option of FIVE checkboxes below that.
Does anyone know how can I get the survey to work in such a way that if the
user clicks on radio button NO on question # 5 in the survey, he/she does not
have the option of clicking on any of the five check boxes. Only if he clicks
on the radio button YES, should he be able to click on any of the five check
boxes below. Presently, wether user clicks on radio button yes or no, he is
able to check all the check boxes. Can this be resolved thru Dreamweaver
Behavior options or do you recommend any other option like ASP code etc? Thanks

Re: Radio Button Options in Dynamic ASP Page
Hi NishSF,
You cannot achieve what you need with html alone. You could use a custom
JavaScript using an If Else conditional statement if you needed to validate
the users selection on the client-side. You may be better of using ASP
(VBScript) if your form is being processed by the server (which it is of course
once any client side scripting has been run).
You could use a simple selection control structure, such as:
IF condition THEN
Statement 1
ELSE
Statement 2
END IF
This could check if checkbox 'no' was selected and move the user to the next
field, or pass them to the options if 'yes' was ticked.
Remember that with checkboxes and ASP you need to know if the user has checked
the box, or combination of boxes, in accordance with the W3C's requirement that
only successful controls are returned as name=value pairs. So, you will need
to check for the existance of checkboxes that you use have been selected or not
to make sure that you don't get an error when retrieving your form data.
Use the
IF Len(Request.QueryString("checkboxname")) > 0 THEN (or Request.Form for
POST method)
do something
ELSE
do something else
END IF
Finally, remember checkboxes can be grouped and have a common name or
individual names.
