Default rasterizing Illustrator artwork in Distiller?

Hi there, I'm trying to export an Indesign CS brochure into a PDF, the document contains a few complex Illustrator drawings. When I export to PDF from InDesign or Save as .ps for Distiller (6.0.2), the illustrations in the PDFs bogs down the page and I have to wait for the drawings to draw itself in the PDF when I scroll through the document. I've tried lowering the Image Quality to "low" in Distiller, but this only created odd rasterized parts within a drawing -- the drawing would still have to draw itself as a vector image, but there would be a square that is rasterized beyond recignition.

Any idea what's going on? I can just recreate the AI files to PSD, but this problem is going to come up again.

    Thanks!

Default Re: rasterizing Illustrator artwork in Distiller?

vector objects will draw themselves based upon the order in which they
were drawn - this can indeed take some time.

Raster images will typically paint themselves down the screen - but
smaller images/a faster workstation makes this look instant.

You have a valid point - one which people however just accept?
