    Default Rasterizing Text Illustrator CS

    Hello all;

    I am having a heck of a time switching over from photoshop to illustrator(probably I am so used to PS and am always looking for the analogus operation in Illustrator) aaaaaaanyway...

    How on earth do I rasterize text so that it is not suffering from the jaggies?

    I want to apply some effects to the text, however the effects are grayed out. I assume the need to rasterize. However, when I do this(rasterize) the text looks horrid. I mean really horrid. It is so jaggy that it looks no longer like vector scalable font.

    I have tryed antialias. Tried quality of 72 through 300 as well as customized up to 800. Tried white and transparant. Nothing helps.

    What am I doing wrong?

    If the effects are greyed out it is probably because your document is in
    CMYK mode and those effects only work in RGB mode

    I checked the settings. It was CMYK and I changed it to RGB. Still when I rasterize, there is a noticable degradation. Is this normal? I know when I rasterize text in photoshop, there is no degradation of quality.

    Actually thereis. A vector is always at infinite resolution. A raster image has finite resolution. If you do not need to rasterize text, don't.

    El Chicko:

    You don't have to rasterize text to apply an effect (even a raster effect) to it, that's the beauty of live effects, you can still edit them once the effect is applied, until you expand it. You can set the raster effect settings in the top portion of the menu, then just fiddle to your heart's content. The raster effects make it so your vector objects can play raster even though they're not.

    I had the same issue, changing to RGB didn't help. The developers made it so you cannot manipulate the text until you have manually changed to the Selection tool. Good times.
