Reading NEF Files
I just bought a new Win XP Home Edition system to replace a Win 98SE. In the 98 system i could open NEF files directly in P S 7.0.1 without having to go through nikon Capture 3.5. With the XP system, P S 7.0.1 gives an error message, "Could not open------------- because the file format module cannot parse the file." When I open the file in Capture first, then go directly into P S, the file opens and can be processed. Nikon Tech support tells me that is the way it should work. If my initial image is wel exposed, the workflow is clearly better if i can bypass Capture. Anyone else have this experience or any thoughts, Thanks.

Re: Reading NEF Files
There is a plugin for PhotoShop included with Nikon Capture (an .8bf file
or similar). You must have had this installed on your previous box.

Re: Reading NEF Files
Have a look in the Nikon View folder and you will find two files (Nikon
NEF Plugin.8bi and Nikon NEF Plugin_5x.8bi) - copy these two file to the
File formats folder in the Photoshop Only plugins folder).
