I was able to figure it out

    ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("Environment")

    this works for both web.config & machine.config

Default RE: Reading Values from Machine.config in ASP.NET

    Hi N S S,

As for the web.config or machine.config , the
"ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings" property allow us to retrieve the
"AppSettings" Sections in them, and the web.config's setting will override
    the machine.configs'.

But as for other buildin sections, they're read by internal sectionhandlers
and there is no buildin means for retrieving those elements.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any further detailed
    requirement. Thanks.
