Yes and no. There is a realplayer package available that will use the
version from real.com and install it. This way the program will be known
to the package management. However, if I remember correctly, you have to
download it first. This deb is also not available in the standard
distribution (at least not in stable). If you use stable, you can get it
from marillat.free.fr. Add the following line to your sources.list:

deb http://marillat.free.fr stable main

Please note that recent versions of mplayer can also be used to play this
type of content. If you install the mplayer-mozilla package additionally
(mplayer and mplayer-mozilla are available on the same server as
realplayer), you can use mplayer in your browser instead of Realplayer.

best regards

apt-get install realplayer

In fact, this is a package that installs the .rpm from Real, as they
don't allow redistribution of their software.

I'm running Woody + backports. I got this one from:

deb http://marillat.free.fr stable main

There is other multimedia stuff there. You can try seaching
www.apt-get.org for listings of add-ons for Debian.

There are instructions in the package. It worked for me.

Cheers,
Bret

If only this were true... in my experience, you need both mplayer and
xine. Both have their problems and can't play certain RM files.

And before I get even more emails about this: looks like the realplayer
package has also been removed from Sid.

Yes, really. 'apt-cache show' is not a reliable indicator; check
/etc/apt/sources.list.

Ah, I have that source. That's why I am getting it.
