Realtime chat software?

Hi, I've been looking for a piece of chatting software that shows other
people's messages _as_ they are typed(Key-by-key), not just once they
punch return, and that also records messages to plaintext files in the
one-over-other manner shown below:

A: Message
B: Message
A: Message
B: Message

I'm just going to be using this over a LAN, and I'd most prefer a
Classic-compatible app.

iChat doesn't do key by key. Also not a Classic app, but the CLI app 'talk'
does just what you describe. It should already be installed with OS X.

It does if you tell it to.

Preferences -> Messages -> Send text as I type (Rendezvous only)
