Recommendations wanted : multifunction printer - Ubuntu

I'm looking for a reasonably good multi-function printer : colour, scanner, copier. Must work perfectly with USB & Linux. I have seen linuxprinting.com, but am looking for concrete real life feedback. I'm still sore that I cant get my lexmark x75 working. in the range of 2-300 USD...

I've never had bad luck with Epson hardware, in the 25 years I've been
    buying it. I haven't tried the all-in-one printer/scanner/fax with
Linux, but if you're investigating options, that's one to consider from
    a hardware standpoint.

Lexmark - I'd rather eat my own spleen.

Any HP all in one should do it. I have the 6110 and can perform all
    functions.

    Should fit the bill.

I have a two week old Epson Stylus CX4800 that works beautifully as a
printer but not as a scanner. Actually I haven't tried it as a scanner
but I read that the drivers were still under development as it's a brand
new model. Somewhere I read that you could get SANE to work with
older drivers but I just don't have a need for it yet. Copying is one
thing I do have a need for and this works nicely in both B&W and color.
The digital media slots also work fine.

Using the CX-3200 drivers with this Epson it prints nicer than my HP
5610xi(connected to my Mac, I realize this is not exactly a direct
comparison). Black is much darker than the HP and looks gorgeous. The
Epson also prints border-less 8.5x11(minus 1/8th of an inch on the bottom)
which my HP does not do nearly as well. The HP leaves 1/4 inch on the
sides and 1/2 inch on the bottom of 8.5x11 pages. Apparently it can only
    print 4x6 and 8x10 border-less pictures.

I was able to print about 100 full page color flyers, single sided with
the cartridges that came in the original box. I have 10 more in the mail
which I bought on ebay for $44 or so. We'll see how they do.

If you go with an Epson, I'd probably not go with the latest model like I
did just because of the scanning. Maybe the CX-3200 is better in this
    regard.

One thing I can say, is that HP seems to have more accurate color out
of the box than Epson(I have found this to be the case regardless
of OS). Although nice, if you want the ultimate in quality,
there are usually more adjustments possible with Epson drivers(again,
regardless of the OS used)and I'm sure you could fine tune the color if
    you have a need to.

P.S. If I have time, I'll hook up the HP 5600xi to the Ubuntu to see how
it fares on scanning. If so, I'll post here.

My HP Officejet 4215 prints fine under Ubuntu. I have never tried to use
it as a scanner, though. It always work as a copier and a fax machine
(this feature also untested on Linux).
