recordCount property - Coldfusion - Getting Started

hi. i'm using Mach II to build my app but i have a question about the recordCount property of a query object. i'm performing login validation and if a record is returned from my SQL query then i pass them along to the next part of the program. the way in which i determine if a user exists is by trying to read the recordCount property of the query. here's my code: <cfset qry_login = variables.libraryService.authenticateUser(username , password, variables.dsn) /> // do the query <!--- ANNOUNCE SUCCESS/FAILURE EVENT ---> <cfif qry_login.recordCount> <cfset announceEvent("loginSuccess") /> <cfelse> <cfset announceEvent("loginFailure") /> </cfif> and ...

    Default recordCount property

    hi.

    i'm using Mach II to build my app but i have a question about the recordCount
    property of a query object.

    i'm performing login validation and if a record is returned from my SQL query
    then i pass them along to the next part of the program. the way in which i
    determine if a user exists is by trying to read the recordCount property of the
    query.

    here's my code:
    <cfset qry_login = variables.libraryService.authenticateUser(username ,
    password, variables.dsn) /> // do the query
    <!--- ANNOUNCE SUCCESS/FAILURE EVENT --->
    <cfif qry_login.recordCount>
    <cfset announceEvent("loginSuccess") />
    <cfelse>
    <cfset announceEvent("loginFailure") />
    </cfif>

    and the error message i'm getting is:
    Element RECORDCOUNT is undefined in QRY_LOGIN.

    what am i missing? why can't i access the recordCount property?

    any ideas are very, very much appreciated.

    thanks.

    fumeng.

    Default Re: recordCount property

    Usually, qryname.recordcount is associated with a cfquery tag. Like:
    <cfquery name="test" ....>
    Select firstname from Mytable
    </cfquery>

    <cfoutput> #test.Recordcount#</cfoutput>

    hey oldCFer.

    thanks for responding to my post. i found out that my function wasn't really
    returning a query at all. so that was the problem. and yes, you'll see
    different conventions used in mach ii than you might in traditional CF apps.

    thanks for lending a hand.

    fumeng.
