    The drive won't be seen as "D:". You can certainly put RedHat or other
    Linux distros on a second partition, disk, or set of partitions. Most
    Linux distros come with their own boot loader, either LILO or grub, that
    replaces the NT boot loader and allows you to dual-boot the system.

    Default RedHat Installation

    I m downloading linux from ftp-linux.cc.... and i m downloading the first
    two packages.. can someone tell me if more are needed for a CS major
    student.. Also my laptop has XP os.. I need to partition my hard drive
    into XP and redhat.. can someone help or assist me doing these tasks?

    First two pkgs? Get the all three ISOs.

    shrike-i386-disc1.iso
    shrike-i386-disc2.iso
    shrike-i386-disc3.iso

    Should be enough. You can get the src rpms on an ad hoc basis.

    here and someone who knows would help you.
