Relative links
Hi there,
I have "inherited" from an ex-colleague a pdf with links to other pdfs within the same folder. All the links in the document are relative links which is how I want them as the document is intended for distribution on CD. My problem is that I now have to add a link to a new document and every attempt I have made gives me an absolute link to the document location on the server. Can anyone tell me how to make this link the same as the others?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Relative links
How do you know the link is absolute?

Re: Relative links
The file path starts with the address of our server whereas all the other links merely name the file linked to.
I have assumed my terminology is correct in this but apologies if not.

Re: Relative links
I mention it because Acrobat will show links in a "friendly" way
rather than the actual way they are stored. I would recommend doing a
test (i.e. move the files, test the link) to see if it is really
absolute.

Re: Relative links
Hi,
I moved the file, tested the link... got cannot find file "Full path address.pdf"
When I check the properties of all links in the document I get "Filename.pdf" except for my new "problem" link which reads "Servername/Folder Location/Filename.pdf"

Re: Relative links
Ok, good test - the next question is, how are you making the link? And
with what version of Acrobat?

Re: Relative links
Hi
I am making the link using the Link Tool. When the box opens I use the dropdown box to select the Open File option then use the Select File button to browse for the file.
This is using Acrobat 4.0.5

Re: Relative links
Hmmm, now I feel stupid. Can't believe I couldn't solve this yesterday. I have managed to create a relative link by taking the whole lot off the server and copying it to my desktop and then working from there.
Thanks for your help though.

Re: Relative links
Matt, Glad that has worked for you. I though have exactly the same problem. When I add a link to the PDF document to a second document it is entering the full directory path of the document rather than a relative link. I am using Acrobat V6. I know in V4 (I missed out on V5) you could change to a relative link. I can find absolutely no way of doing this in V6.
Can anybody help me?
