removing effects
Is it possible to remove effects (dropshadows, embossing, etc...) from something once its been applied? I mean other than a simple Undo. this is for stuff created long ago

You can revert the object to default (select and hit d) or you can remove the individual effects in the appearance menu.

Go to Window/Show Appearance. Have the object with the effect you wish to remove selected, then click on Clear Appearance button (2nd from left on bottom of palette). If you wish to keep this effect but not have it for future objects in this document, then click first button, which is "New Art has basic appearance".
