Rename files using Contribute
I had a user today publish a new file named "indexi.asp" He intended to
name it "index.asp" but did not realize his mistake until too late.
So we now have a file called indexi.asp on the server. Is there any way
to rename it using Contribute?
The file uses repeating regions, so we can not merely copy the content
and paste it into a new file of the same template.
I can perform the rename in the back end, and they can via a direct
(network share) connection to the folder, but I'd rather encourage them
to do everything from Contribute if possible.
Thanks.

Re: Rename files using Contribute
I don't think Contribute can do a rename. You could start an edit on the
mis-named page in Contribute and therefore get it to download a copy of the
page to the local working directory, Save for later and exit. Then copy the
page on the local drive, renaming it index(New).asp, go back into Contribute,
publish the new page and cancel the draft of the mis-named one. Not complex,
but hardly simple either.

Re: Rename files using Contribute
Thanks, Tom. That's about what I figured. Just as easy for the user to
rename the file on the server (at least, for these users.)

Right now contribute does not have re-name functionality. Another
alternative could be, Browse to the file on the server that you want to
rename (say indexi.htm) and do File->New->Copy of Current page, Enter
proper title for the page, and publish the page as index.htm, Delete the
page on the server that you dont want to have (indexi.htm). I know this
isnt a better work around but we shall plan to have this capability
added to contribute in future releases.
Thanks
